Driving safety

SAFETY FIRST - is always in the foreground for us - not only, but especially when autumn is just around the corner!

Last weekend it was time again: together with our customer @SHELL CHEMICALS Europe, we completed our active driving safety training.

Steering and braking on wet asphalt was just one of the tasks. At the end of the day, we could say: Well done, guys!

We are also pleased to have received the DOW 4STAR Silver Award.

This shows us once again that we are on the right track.

Mrs Haak

Mrs Haak

After 47 years of work, we said goodbye to our long-time authorised signatory Doris Haak in her well-deserved retirement.

Almost half a century in the same company - and that doesn't even make her a record holder (more on that in a few years).

This is truly an extraordinary achievement and something very special!

We duly honoured this special occasion at a celebration on Friday.

All colleagues wish her all the best for her future plans!

Driving safety training

Driving safety training

Rollover prevention, braking exercises, slalom course, seat and mirror adjustments - safety comes first at KUBE & KUBENZ!

A driving safety training course offers the opportunity to experience dangerous driving situations and the limits of your own vehicle in a controlled and safe environment.

An important training for which we thank the organisers of Green duck and all participants.

Water transport Ahrtal

Water transport Ahrtal

North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate have been very badly affected by the flood disaster.

We have branches in these regions that have fortunately been spared from this disaster. We would like to help and provide support and are making two new tank trailers available in Bad Münstereifel (Iversheim & Arloff), each with a capacity of approx. 36,000 litres of drinking water.

A big thank you also to LZ1, Fire Brigade Bergheim of the Bergheim volunteer Fire Brigade for their active cooperation.

Our thoughts are with those affected and we thank the many helpers on site for their commitment.

Natural power made by IVECO - test approved!

Natural power made by IVECO - test approved!

Sustainable and environmentally-friendly logistics is a vital factor for KUBE & KUBENZ. Over the last 12 months we've been exploring new routes and testing the modern IVECO Stralis LNG with three trucks. And these LNG driven-trucks have convinced us completely! Thanks to reduced engine noise these vehicles will reduce noise exposure and also our drivers are already reporting a positive feedback on driving experiences.

Another important reason for KUBE & KUBENZ taking this step into a new technology is the significant reduction of CO2-emissions from these LNG trucks. Per vehicle we can save around 15 tons of CO2 per 100,000 kilometres - a great contribution to keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible! We are looking forward to maintaining this into the future and to expanding our IVECO Stralis fleet.

Top modern fleet growth

Top modern fleet growth

Three brandnew IVECO Stralis vehicles - LNG powered - were added to our fleet last week. These vehicles are an important step into the future with nearly zero emissions (70% less nitrogen oxides, 99% less soot particles, 90% less methane -free HC than required by the Euro VI standard) and significantly lower CO2 emissions.

The IVECO team reports on LinkedIn:

„KUBE & KUBENZ Internationale Speditions- und Logistikgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG takes over the first three LNG Iveco Stralis at our Hamburg site. We were very pleased about the visit of Mr. Michael Kubenz and Mr. Konstantin Kubenz. The drivers could be introduced to the new vehicles on this occasion.“

Konstantin Kubenz, MD of KUBE & KUBENZ, adds:

„Yesterday we took over our first LNG trucks in Hamburg. The ongoing and constant renewal of our fleet is always in our focus and we do not close ourselves to new technologies. We are very curious how the new vehicles prove themselves in everyday life. “

Visiting the rail terminal Köln Eifeltor

Visiting the rail terminal Köln Eifeltor

At the beginning of January 2019, three trainees from the KUBE & KUBENZ branch in Bergheim, accompanied by a dispatchers, made a trip to Cologne, where they were able to take a look behind the scenes of the terminal operation Köln Eifeltor, one of the largest container stations in Europe. Every day, four crane runways tranship up to 1,200 TEU between trucks and trains at the terminal.

A local representative of Kombiverkehr AG guided the visitors through the area of the freight station and showed them the daily processes involved in handling the containers. At the same time, he addressed some of the most common challenges that can arise when interacting with truck drivers, which can delay handling at the terminal. For the trainees of the dangerous goods logistics forwarder, this was important information, not only for their own training, but also for their understanding of future cooperation with terminals, dispatchers and customers.

The trainees were particularly impressed by the crane runways, which easily move 20- and 40-foot containers weighing several tons from train to truck or vice versa. They were also able to take a close look at a new type of wagon, called lowered pocket wagon. This makes it possible to carry semi-trailers with a corner height of up to four metres, which otherwise can only be transported on routes with correspondingly extended tunnel heights. The pocket wagons are used in particular on routes to Italy, where there are several lower tunnels. "The tour of the terminal was an impressive opportunity to follow the multimodal journey of the goods transported by our forwarding company and to see the daily work from a different perspective," said Janik Murkowski, trainee at KUBE & KUBENZ.

At the end of the tour, the visitors watched as a finished train with two KUBE & KUBENZ containers was brought to the forecourt station, from where it will continue its journey. KUBE & KUBENZ regularly undertakes excursions such as this one as part of its training as a forwarding and logistics services specialist.

Shuttlewise organized La Grande Corsa

Shuttlewise organized La Grande Corsa

In memory of a former Shuttlewise colleague, who unfortunately passed away some years ago, combining with the 10th anniversary of the company, Shuttlewise decided to organize La Grande Corsa: a cycling trip starting from Oss (NL); we talk about 1.362 km, crossing 7 countries and climbing 19.170 meters, arriving then in Mortara (IT) after some real tough stages.

Shuttlewise involved partners, suppliers and customers for building up this project, all participating with voluntary donations, pointed out as sponsor inside the entire event.

It was an honour and pleasure for us being a part of this event and to support the foundation with our donation.

Thank you very much for having us and very well done guys @ Shuttlewise!

When the container handling doubles and the transshipment stations collapse, it needs flexible solutions. To ensure the usual reliable service, a journey could go over the countryside – to Finland. Thanks to all involved to whom no distance is too long for our customers!

Emergency Drill: Driver Safety Training at KUBE & KUBENZ

Emergency Drill: Driver Safety Training at KUBE & KUBENZ

On 6 May 2017, 20 employees of KUBE & KUBENZ as well as its subsidiary Peter Hempt GmbH completed a truck driver safety training. These drills have been held by KUBE & KUBENZ since 2004 and are offered several times a year to all employees of the operative business in order to prepare them extensively for dangerous road situations such as a wet or slippery pavement, obstacles or sharp turns.

The training was conducted by three driving instructors of the company green duck GmbH from Grevenbroich. At the Bitburg airfield, which offered sufficient space for the exciting maneuvers, they showed the participants how to quickly swerve and brake during rain and on slippery roads as well as avoiding the dangerous roll-over situation and what can happen when a truck tips over.

“The training was an exciting task for all participants, especially for me since I am not a professional truck driver,” reports Jan-Hendrik Albers, Account Manager at KUBE & KUBENZ. “Even experienced truck drivers have huge respect for the so-called roll-over. It shows once more how quickly precarious situations can happen in every-day traffic.”

At the end of the training, all participants received a certificate. The goal of the voluntary driver safety training is to practice the right reaction in dangerous situations in a safe environment, so that in a real case of emergency, the drivers can quickly draw on their gained experience. As a specialist for the transport of liquid and hazardous goods, KUBE & KUBENZ places special emphasis on these regular drills.

Petra van Bremen-Kubenz named patron for Ronald McDonald House and Oasis in Hamburg-Altona

Petra van Bremen-Kubenz named patron for Ronald McDonald House and Oasis in Hamburg-Altona

The Ronald McDonald House and Oasis, located on the premises of the Altona Children’s Hospital in Hamburg, offers the families of seriously ill or injured children a home away from home and a place of comfort. In December 2015, Petra van Bremen-Kubenz, photo model and wife of KUBE & KUBENZ Managing Director Michael Kubenz, has taken over patronage for the house and oasis and now forms part of the patrons-duo together with Maren Otto. Since 2014, the Ronald McDonald House has been accommodating around 250 families a year, while their children are being treated at the hospital.

„When a child is seriously ill or injured, parents, siblings or other caregivers can aid the recovery – simply by being there for them. During difficult times, the Ronald McDonald House offers families a temporary home and a place to be comforted together,” says Petra van Bremen-Kubenz, who has been involved in several charity projects for years. “It is my pleasure and truly an honour to be involved in this project and to accept the patronage for this institution next to Maren Otto.”

Since 2015, the forwarding company KUBE & KUBENZ has been taking over the running costs for an apartment at the Ronald McDonald House and Oasis at the Altona Children’s Hospital. The company will continue this support in 2016.

KUBE & KUBENZ in Cologne: We’re moving!

KUBE & KUBENZ in Cologne: We’re moving!

On 26 February, the local branch of liquid transport specialist KUBE & KUBENZ in Hürth near Cologne is moving from the Knapsack Chemical Park onto their own new campus, which is situated only a few kilometres away in Bergheim. On the new campus, the branch with more than 30 employees will continue to cover a broad range of services including engineering/technics, equipment management, sales & purchasing of international services, international and road planning as well as trucking. KUBE & KUBENZ had acquired the property towards the end of 2015. At a size of 18,000 square meters, it includes office buildings, a workshop and a box and tank container depot with a capacity of 250 TEU. In a secondary expansion stage, the depot’s capacity will be extended to 400 TEU. A company-owned reach stacker will be used to lift on, lift off and move the tank containers within the depot. The workshop will offer repair and maintenance services for box and tank containers as well as chassis and trailers and will be operated by Hendricks Reparatur & Service GmbH & Co. KG.

„“Our business in Cologne has seen some satisfying development during the past few years. The capacity expansion will allow us to continue to offer our customers the best possible service and flexible logistics solutions for the transport of their liquid and gaseous products,” emphasized Michael Kubenz, proprietor and Managing Director of KUBE & KUBENZ.

Branch Manager Olaf Fügemann added:

“The relocation and preparations of the new offices are already under way. Of course, this will have no impact on our operative business. We look forward to presenting our customers with our extended storage capacities and services at the new campus.”

KUBE & KUBENZ-Fahrer erhält IRU-Ehrendiplom

KUBE & KUBENZ-Fahrer erhält IRU-Ehrendiplom

Dietmar Bussler, who has been a professional driver at KUBE & KUBENZ since May 1999, was awarded the Diploma of Honour by the International Road Transport Union. It is given each year to professional drivers who have distinguished themselves due to their achievements in the national and international road transport.

The requirements for the Diploma of Honour include having continuously been in their profession for at least 20 years as well as employment of at least five years with the company that nominated them.

In addition, they have to have driven a minimum of one million kilometers on national or transnational roads without having caused, by their own fault, any serious road traffic accidents with bodily harm during the past 20 years. They also may not have committed any serious violations of traffic, customs or administrative regulations.

KUBE & KUBENZ is proud of this award, which is now held by seven drivers in the team, and would like to take this opportunity to thank all colleagues. “This Diploma of Honour is an important and desirable award for all professional drivers, for our company as well as for the chemical logistics industry,” said Managing Director Michael Kubenz on the occasion of the award..

In 2015, a total of 1,214 professional drivers from 28 countries received the IRU’s Diploma of Honour. Germany came first among them with 168 drivers being awarded. It was closely followed by Belarus with 123 drivers, the Czech Republic with 119 drivers and Belgium with 103 drivers. On behalf of the IRU, the German Forwarders and Logistics Association (DSLV) presented the KUBE & KUBENZ driver with the corresponding diploma, an emblem and a silver badge of honour.

New Specialised Semi-Trailer for Hydrogen Peroxide

New Specialised Semi-Trailer for Hydrogen Peroxide

The French subsidiary of KUBE & KUBENZ in Lyon has invested in another specialized semi-trailer for the transport of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The semi-trailer has a capacity of 30 m3 including baffles and has been in use as “dedicated equipment” for a major client in France since this year. Over all in 2015, KUBE & KUBENZ was able to double its tank truck transport capacities for hydrogen peroxide in France.

Due to the product properties of H2O2 as a weak acid, special tanks need to be used for its transport. The specialised semi-trailer has optimised loading and carrying capacities compared to standard semi-trailers, which have a capacity of 24 to 27 m3. In addition, the semi-trailer is equipped with a pump and stack pipe that enable unloading from top as well as bottom discharge.

Hydrogen peroxide has a variety of uses in multiple fields and industries. As a bleaching agent, it is used for example in the restauration of wood, to bleach paper, hair or in dental medicine. H2O2 is also used in water treatment facilities, for disinfection and sterilisation. In biology, it can be utilised to identify bacteria cultures. As a caustic agent in combination with sulphuric acid, hydrogen peroxide is used for cleaning in microelectronics and to remove photoresists.
